the superfoods you won’t want to pass up

When it comes to superfoods, we’re fully on-board with this craze.

Hemp is a well-known superfood itself. Hemp hearts are a versatile addition to any diet, supplying a hefty 10 grams of protein per serving, a full amino-acid profile, essential vitamins, and Omega-3 fatty acids. When consumed as part of a healthy diet, they have similar health benefits as our full spectrum hemp extract that you’ll find in each one of our tinctures.

We couldn’t resist taking our hemp one step further.

Why settle for “good enough” when we could do better? But why superfoods?

Beyond Buzzwords… The Power of Superfoods

Superfoods have caught wind of the ever-evolving world of diet trends. But the truth is, the superfoods we’ve selected for our tinctures have been utilized medicinally for thousands of years. These superfoods come from the Earth, unprocessed, and in their most potent form.

In a nutshell, superfoods are nutritional kingpins.

Exceptionally high in micronutrients and essential minerals, they support bodily resistance and vitality. And while it may be difficult to come across some in your everyday grocery shop, we’ve packed each of our tinctures with the highest-grade, ethically sourced, and most potent superfoods we could find.

MCT Oil

The MCT you’ll find in any of our tinctures is derived from pure coconut oil. MCT is short for medium-chain triglycerides, which host a variety of potential benefits when consumed in moderation. MCT’s are believed to suppress a large appetite and improve cognitive function and memory.

We use this superfood in our tinctures to increase bioavailability and absorption of the cannabinoids. MCT acts as a carrier oil for CBD, allowing maximum concentrations to be absorbed into the bloodstream, rather than processed through the digestive system.

Turmeric

Turmeric is the superfood of the 21st century.

This bright orange root is rich in vitamin C, essential B vitamins, potassium, and magnesium. Incorporating turmeric regularly in the diet has been linked to improved immune functions, support for joint mobility, and a better response to glucose intake with the roots’ orange-colored compound, curcumin.

You might have noticed that we’ve paired turmeric with black pepper oil in our Turmeric + Black Pepper tincture. Turmeric is absorbed into the bloodstream much more effectively when black pepper is added. You can think of it the same way as how CBD pairs with MCT Oil!

Goji

These tiny fruits hold massive, medicinal power.

Goji berries have been a staple in Asia for centuries, popularized for their belief to make one, “live longer.” While there is no evidence that the berry increases lifespan--(we’d eat them by the barrel, in this case), they are a potent source of antioxidants and minerals, such as beta-carotene.

This superfood is often touted to be the “beauty berry”, with essential amino acids, and beauty-boosting vitamins, such as vitamin C. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners also believe Goji benefits the female reproductive system, enhancing fertility. There is currently no medical evidence to prove this.

Cacao

That’s right. Now, we’re looking at you, chocolate-lovers.

Our cacao absolute is imported from France, and pairs perfectly with Goji in our Goji+Cacao tincture. Cacao is naturally high in a sub-group of flavonoids, known as flavanols. These compounds have plenty of benefits, including their ability to carry oxygen and nutrients through the body and protect cells against free radical damage.

Cacao is rich in polyphenols, which support the whole body in cardiovascular, neurological, intestinal, and metabolic functioning. One double-blind study looked at 22 participants who consumed moderate amounts of cacao each day for four weeks. The study had found participants saw a significant increase in probiotics, Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. Probiotics are essential for maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut, and for assimilating nutrients efficiently.

Green Tea

Green tea leaves contain over 400 health-enhancing organic substances, making this ancient superfood a nutritional superstar. Green tea is high in polyphenols and antioxidants, and when consumed in moderation, supports a healthy cardiovascular system and smooth digestion.

Green tea contains a small amount of caffeine, which behaves differently in the body than the caffeine in coffee. Amino acid, L-theanine is also present in green tea, increasing energy and focus naturally, without the crash and jitters.

The Future of Holistic Wellness

As research continues to develop, we’re excited by the information that continues to spread, and by the growing number of individuals choosing to improve their health through natural substances and a nutritious diet.

By caring for the mind, body and spirit synergistically, poor health and disease stand little chance in becoming a pressing issue in one’s life. Health and wellness truly are quite similar to a balancing act; and your own natural intelligence will always let you know when you are falling out of alignment. One of the best things we could ever do for ourselves is to look after our health and find ways to tune in to what our body is calling for. It will always let you know if you’re listening closely.

If you’re having trouble tuning in, your nervous system might need some nourishment. Our CBD stimulates the release of endocannabinoids that play an important role in regulating mood, memory, focus, appetite, sleep, and healthy levels of inflammation in the body.
